The Sonata for Flute and Piano Op.43 titled The Sentinel was conceived as program music. The two movements Nightwatch and Toward the dawn tell the story of the invisible powers that govern the universe and the world we are living in. Dark powers arise in the long hours of the night and make our hearts sink. The knowledge, that dawn is bound to break, gives us the inner strength to fight our anxieties and let go of our fears. Eventually the guarding spirits are going to lead us from darkness into the light, where we will be safe from danger.
